Windshield

The glass immediately in front of the operator (windshield) may have a strip of tinting material applied to the top edge, but it may not extend downward more than 5 inches from the top center of the windshield. A separate provision allows windshields on vehicles equipped with a physician's certification (medical exemption) to be covered so as to result in at least 50 percent net light transmission; windshields of law enforcement vehicles may be tinted to at least 50 percent net light transmission.

Medical exemption

A motorist diagnosed by a physician with a disease or disorder (the statute names albinism and lupus as examples, not an exhaustive list) for which the physician determines an exemption is in the motorist's best interest may, since August 16, 2013, use tinting that results in at least 20 percent net light transmission on the front-of-driver/immediately-behind-driver side windows, at least 10 percent on the rearmost window, and at least 50 percent on the front windshield.
