The rules, window by window

Windshield

No material that reduces light transmission may be affixed to or placed on the windshield except within 75 mm of the top of the windshield.

The standard in the law's own words

No person shall drive a vehicle if the windshield or any window is 'in such condition that the vision of the driver is impaired' (general clause of Division 7.05), in addition to the specific placement rules below.

Medical exemption

No medical exemption provision identified in Division 7.05 in the sections reviewed. Not confirmed either way from a primary source in this pass.

Enforcement

Where a vehicle has manufactured (factory) glazing that includes tint, that tint must meet the minimum light-transmittance requirements of the Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS) rather than a separate provincial percentage.

Notes

BC's rule is structured as WHERE light-reducing material may be placed, not as a numeric VLT floor: windshield tint is allowed only in the top 75 mm; front side windows (beside the driver) may not have added light-reducing material at all; a side window behind the driver may have light-reducing material; the rear window may have it only if the vehicle has exterior rear-view mirrors on both the left and right. No percentage figure for front or rear side VLT was found in Division 7.05 itself, only the CMVSS reference for factory-tinted manufactured glass. This entry should be treated as high confidence for the placement rules (top 75 mm, front side prohibition, rear window mirror condition) and as unverified/null for any specific percentage number, since the fetch of the full regulation text was via a summarizing tool rather than a full section-by-section primary read; a follow-up direct read of BC Reg 26/58, Division 7, s.7.05 in full is recommended before publishing a specific percentage claim.
